I am sitting at my in-laws house looking at the beautiful day and once again enjoying the backyard. For 20 years (wow I am getting old) I have loved this backyard, it is simple in some ways but extremely elegant in other ways. A pool that my family has played in for years and flowers that every year make you smile because the colors are so bright and placed in such a warm and inviting way. Our girls learned how to swim in this pool, took their first swim lessons here. We used to fill the pool with friends that always led to a great cook out at the end of the day. The birds and squirrels visit often and our dog Gabbi is resting preparing for her next adventure trying to catch them, it never happens but she enjoys the adventure. It is so interesting how the sweet and simple things in life really do mean more than the complicated stuff. Yet we often spend all of our time focused on the complicated. Have you heard of the 80 /20 rule. We spend 80% of our time on the urgent and 20% of our time on the important. What would happen if we were to flip it and intentionally spend 80% of our time focused on the important and only 20% focused on the urgent? It would be interesting to see if the urgent, was really all that urgent after all.

As most of you know I am in a new role as the Executive Director at A Beacon of Hope. A Beacon of Hope is a pregnancy and relationship resource center and I am so thankful that I have been given an opportunity to join an incredible team of staff and volunteers in this calling. This role has been very ecxiting, rewarding, tiring, fun, and scary all wrapped in one. I am learning how to focus on the important within my new role and at times it is a challenge. I am also learning that it doesn't all have to be done today. It's amazing, when I finally give in and head home, somehow the work that needs to be done is still magically waiting for me the next day when I arrive. I will say there are times I think it would be kind of cool to walk in to a clean desk and a completed list of things to do but so far that has not happened. But for the first time in my life, I think I am okay with that. I leave the office eager to head home and I arrive at the office eager to dig in. God is showing me on a daily basis what it means to truly join Him in His work. I will never complete it all, thankfully -He has already completed the important and He is actively alive and at work on the "urgent." Life is good today!
